marcela levi

Marcela Levi (1973, Rio de Janeiro) is a performer and choreographer.

In 2010, between Rio de Janeiro and Buenos Aires, she founded with the Argentinean choreographer Lucia Russo, the "Improvável Produções" - responsible for creating and producing, among other projects, the performance "Monstrous Nature", sponsored by the Rio de Janeiro City Department of Culture project Fostering Dance 2011; the urban intervention "Sandwalk with me", developed between London and Rio de Janeiro with the support of the Rio de Janeiro State Department of Culture and the co-production of the Festival Panorama; and the performances "Mordedores", co-produced with the Iberescena Fund and sponsored by the Rio de Janeiro City Department of Culture project Fostering Dance 2015, and Boca de Ferro (2016/17).

Over the last 17 years, Levi has been developing projects that dissolve the boundaries between dance and the visual arts, building a language that disrupts the hierarchy between body and object: the body becomes an object and objects become body. Through her work, Levi creates a zone of ambiguity and displacements.

Graduated at the Angel Vianna Dance School in Rio de Janeiro, Levi has been a resident artist at the Les Recollets Art Center in France; at the Casa Encendida and the Espaço Cultural Azala, both in Spain; at the ON.OFF Urban Creativity Laboratory held in Guimarães, Portugal (the European Cultural Capital, 2012); guest artist in the Rio Occupation London program at the London Cultural Olympiad promoted by SEC RJ; and recipient of the Batiscafo scholarship (Cuba).

Her projects have been presented in various festivals and art centers in Brazil, Europe and Latin America as Impulstanz Festival (Vienna), Les inaccoutumés - Ménagerie de Verre (Paris), in Transit (Berlin), In Presentables (Madrid), Choregraphiques Rencontres de Seine-Saint-Denis (Paris), Kunsten Festival des Arts (Brussels), Nottdance (Nottingham), Arnolfini (Bristol), Teatro Solís (Uruguay), COCOA Festival (Buenos Aires), International Dance Biennial of Ceará, Brazil Casa France, MAM RJ, among many others.

Levi has worked in collaboration with Lia Rodrigues, Vera Mantero and Guillermo Gomez-Peña, among others.
